Tahira Kashyap, noted writer-director and wife of Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana, recently opened up about her directorial debut, ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’, which took more than seven years to come to fruition. The film, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, has been well-received for its portrayal of middle-class women and their journeys of aspiration, self-discovery, and self-love.
Featuring versatile actors Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta, and Saiyami Kher, the film has garnered praise from audiences and critics alike. In a recent interview, Kashyap expressed her joy over the audience’s empathetic response to the characters.
“It took 7 years to make the film, and I am overjoyed because the audience can empathize and relate to the different characters,” Kashyap shared. She emphasized her goal to create a film that entertains, engages, and adds value to viewers’ lives.
Reflecting on her experience working with acclaimed actors like Divya Dutta and Sakshi Tanwar, Kashyap praised their dedication and passion. “Divya Dutta approached each day on set with the enthusiasm of her first film, which was inspiring for me,” she recalled. “Sakshi Tanwar brought such depth to her character that I often forgot she was Sakshi and not the character she portrayed.”
Looking ahead, Kashyap hinted at future directorial projects, including collaborations with Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga. Fans can now enjoy the comedy-drama ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’ on Amazon Prime Video.
