A Historic Victory for Denmark
Denmark has its first-ever Miss Universe, as 21-year-old Victoria Kjær Theilvig claimed the title in Mexico City. Competing against over 120 contestants, the competitive dancer and entrepreneur stood out with her charm, confidence, and compelling message of living authentically.
Victoria’s win was celebrated as a groundbreaking moment for her country. She received the iconic tiara from Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, last year’s winner, during a night filled with elegance and excitement.
Glamour, Talent, and Empowerment
The competition kicked off with 30 finalists showcasing their skills in national costumes, swimwear, and evening gowns. Hosted by Mario Lopez and Olivia Culpo, the event was amplified by Robin Thicke’s musical performance.
Victoria’s crowning moment came after an impressive Q&A session, where she shared her belief in living without regrets. “I wouldn’t change anything,” she said, “because I stand here to make history and inspire others to embrace their dreams.”
A Transformative Year for Miss Universe
The 2024 edition marked a new chapter for Miss Universe, breaking traditional norms. This was the first year that mothers, married women, and contestants over 28 were allowed to compete. Venezuela’s Ileana Marquez Pedroza, a mother of two, made headlines for breaking barriers.
Additionally, the competition welcomed entrants from Cuba, Belarus, Eritrea, and the UAE for the first time. Beatrice Njoya of Malta also became a trailblazer as the first contestant in her 40s to reach the finals.
Challenges and Triumphs
While the pageant celebrated inclusivity, controversies persisted. Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina, who finished as the first runner-up, faced xenophobic hostility during her national-level competition in South Africa.
Despite the challenges, Miss Universe 2024 highlighted the power of diversity and the evolving standards of beauty, marking a memorable year in its storied history.
