Sydney Sweeney Addresses Barbie Sequel Rumors: Would She Replace Margot Robbie?

Rising Hollywood talent Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to high-profile roles, but when asked about stepping into the dazzling world of Barbie, she responded with thoughtful clarity.

Currently busy with multiple projects—including The Housemaid, a biopic on boxer Christy Martin, and Season 3 of HBO’s Euphoria—Sweeney addressed the circulating rumors about her possibly replacing Margot Robbie in a Barbie sequel.

In a recent interview, Sweeney acknowledged her admiration for the original film and for Robbie, who portrayed Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 box-office sensation.

“I’d have to read a script, but I’m a huge, huge fan of Margot,” she said. “So I would not be opposed to it.”

However, she was quick to dismiss the idea of taking over Robbie’s central role. Instead, Sweeney suggested a more collaborative path, adding that she’d love to play Barbie’s sister or a complementary character in the sequel.

The original film, directed and co-written by Greta Gerwig, starred an ensemble cast led by Robbie and Ryan Gosling. With performances by America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, and others, Barbie redefined what a nostalgic brand adaptation could achieve.

As speculation continues over the direction of a potential sequel, fans and industry watchers are now wondering what role—if any—Sweeney might ultimately play in the evolving Barbie cinematic universe.
