Tom Holland Says Promoting Some Past Films Was Difficult Because He Did Not Believe in Them

Hollywood actor Tom Holland has opened up about the challenges of promoting some of his earlier movies, admitting that certain press tours were difficult because he did not always feel confident recommending the projects to audiences.

During an appearance on the Dish Podcast, Holland discussed the difference between promoting films he genuinely believes in and projects where he struggled to connect with the final product. The actor compared his current promotional work for The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day with experiences from earlier stages of his career.

Holland said promoting movies he is proud of feels much easier because he can speak honestly about their quality and encourage audiences to watch them without hesitation.

“When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy,” Holland explained, adding that answering questions about why people should watch a film becomes natural when he truly believes in the project.

The actor also revealed that some previous promotional campaigns were much more challenging. He admitted that there were moments when interviewers asked why audiences should watch a particular movie, while privately he did not share the same enthusiasm for the project.

Holland’s comments highlight the often complicated relationship actors have with film promotion. While actors are expected to support their projects publicly, their personal opinions about the final result can sometimes differ from audience expectations or studio messaging.

The British actor is currently promoting two major upcoming releases that have generated significant attention among movie fans. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has reportedly achieved strong early box office performance, surpassing $300 million globally during its opening week.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks Holland’s fourth standalone Spider-Man film and is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 31. The movie is among the most anticipated releases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with fans eager to see the next chapter of Peter Parker’s story.

Reflecting on his current promotional schedule, Holland described the experience as especially rewarding. He said the campaign feels like a celebration because he is proud of both projects and enjoys discussing them with audiences.

The actor’s remarks have sparked conversations among fans about the pressures performers face during promotional tours. Movie stars often spend weeks traveling, attending interviews, and representing films that involve hundreds of creative decisions made by directors, producers, and studios.

Holland has become one of the most recognizable actors of his generation, particularly through his role as Spider-Man in Marvel films. His comments provide insight into the reality behind Hollywood publicity campaigns and the importance of genuine enthusiasm when promoting creative work.

As audiences prepare for The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland’s latest comments show why personal connection with a project can make promotional events more enjoyable for both actors and fans.
