Pakistani actor Usman Javed has revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes experience involving a fight sequence, explaining why he prefers actors to give their scenes a more authentic performance.
During a recent appearance on a morning show, Usman recalled working on a drama where a scene required him to hit another actor. However, his co-star was reportedly uncomfortable with actually taking the hit, creating a challenge for the production team.
According to Usman, the sequence was important to the storyline and had been specifically written into the script. The reluctance to perform the physical action therefore became an issue for the director, as changing the scene could affect the way the sequence was presented.
Usman explained that physical confrontations in television dramas are generally created through acting techniques, camera angles, editing and sound effects. Actors can simulate punches and other movements without making genuine physical contact.
However, the actor said he personally prefers fight sequences to feel more convincing when performing them on screen.
He explained that he encourages fellow performers to commit properly to what has been written in the script instead of appearing hesitant during physically demanding scenes.
For Usman, the objective is to make the moment look believable for viewers while maintaining the requirements of the story and direction.
His comments also offer a glimpse into the practical difficulties actors can face while shooting action-heavy scenes. Even a relatively short fight sequence can require coordination between performers, directors, camera crews and other members of the production team.
Usman Javed has developed a reputation for taking on intense and challenging characters in Pakistani television. His performance as Meeral in Jhok Sarkar became a major turning point in his career and brought him wider recognition. HUM TV currently lists Jhok Sarkar, Sultanat, Tan Man Neelo Neel and Zanjeerain among his television credits.
In Jhok Sarkar, Usman portrayed Meeral, a powerful and antagonistic character in the drama starring Farhan Saeed, Hiba Bukhari and Asif Raza Mir. His portrayal helped establish him as an actor capable of handling darker and emotionally demanding roles.
He later appeared as Kami in Tan Man Neelo Neel, another complex character that placed him at the centre of the drama’s more serious storyline. His performance in the serial also attracted attention from viewers and critics.
More recently, Usman has appeared as Torsam Khan in Zanjeerain. His recent television work has continued to draw attention, with viewers discussing his performances and calling for him to receive more prominent roles.
Beyond television, Usman has also worked in theatre and received formal acting training. His career has included stage performances alongside his television work, giving him experience in different forms of performance.
