Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has reportedly postponed his scheduled appearance at a Mumbai event following the reported death of veteran actor Nana Patekar at the age of 75.
Salman was expected to attend an event organised by GB Realty at Taj Lands End in Mumbai’s Bandra area. The programme was postponed after news of Nana Patekar’s death emerged.
The two actors shared the screen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 1996 film Khamoshi: The Musical, which also featured Manisha Koirala and Seema Biswas in prominent roles.
Nana Patekar played Joseph, the father of Manisha Koirala’s character Annie, while Salman Khan appeared as Raj. The film remains one of the notable collaborations between the two actors during the early years of Salman’s career.
Nana Patekar reportedly died at his residence in Goa in the early hours of Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest. Reports said doctors attempted to revive the actor through CPR for approximately 45 minutes.
He was reportedly declared dead at around 5:20am.
The veteran actor had made what was reported to be his final public appearance only a few days earlier. He attended the Samraat Club International installation ceremony in Dona Paula, Goa, on October 4.
Nana Patekar, whose birth name was Vishwanath Patekar, was born on January 1, 1951. He began his artistic career in theatre before entering the film industry and making his screen debut with Gaman in 1978.
Over a career spanning several decades, Nana established himself as one of Indian cinema’s most respected performers. His filmography included critically acclaimed and commercially successful projects across different genres.
Among his notable films were Parinda, Prahaar, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Shakti: The Power, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan and Taxi No. 9211.
His performances were not limited to serious and dramatic roles. Nana also became popular for his comic timing and memorable characters, particularly his portrayal of Uday Shetty in the comedy film Welcome.
The character became one of his most recognisable comic roles, and he later returned as Uday Shetty in Welcome Back.
Nana’s reported death has drawn attention across the Indian film industry, with his long career leaving a significant mark on Hindi cinema. His ability to move between intense dramatic performances and comedy made him a distinctive presence on screen.
Salman Khan’s postponed Mumbai appearance also highlights the connection between the two actors, who had worked together during an important period of Salman’s early Bollywood career.
Their collaboration in Khamoshi: The Musical remains a notable part of both actors’ filmographies. The 1996 film was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is remembered for its emotional storyline and performances.
As tributes continue to emerge following Nana Patekar’s reported death, his decades-long contribution to Indian cinema remains a major part of his legacy.
