Veteran Pakistani actress and director Sangeeta has opened up about her personal life, revealing that she is currently married for the third time and explaining why she decided to seek companionship later in life.
During a podcast appearance, the actress discussed her previous marriages, her current relationship and the difficult experiences she says she faced in earlier marriages, including physical abuse.
Sangeeta said her first marriage was to Humayun Qureshi, while her second marriage was to Naveed Akbar.
She revealed that she is now married to Tariq Mendro, whom she described as being associated with the film industry and working as a distributor. According to Sangeeta, the couple got married around 14 years ago.
The actress explained that her decision to marry again came after her daughters had gotten married and she began spending more time alone.
She said her husband proposed to her several times before she eventually decided that having a companion in old age was important.
Sangeeta also spoke positively about the way her current husband handles disagreements. She said one of the qualities she values most is that he does not use abusive language, physically harm women or engage in unnecessary arguments.
According to the actress, even when she becomes angry, her husband generally chooses to leave the room rather than escalate the situation.
She said both of them tend to remain quiet when they are upset, which she believes has helped them avoid serious conflicts and maintain a stable marriage.
Sangeeta Recalls Physical Abuse in Previous Marriages
While discussing her earlier relationships, Sangeeta also made serious allegations about experiencing physical abuse.
The actress described violence in marriage as an unacceptable situation and said it contributed to her decision to end her previous relationships.
Recalling the difficulties she faced, Sangeeta claimed that the abuse was sometimes severe enough to leave visible injuries.
“I faced a lot; I used to reach the studio with bruises,” she said during the podcast.
Sangeeta emphasized that physical violence is a major red flag in a marriage and said her experiences ultimately played a role in her decision to seek divorce.
