Preity Zinta Says She Still Feels Awkward Watching Herself on Screen

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has opened up about her long-standing discomfort with watching herself on screen, revealing that she still experiences self-doubt despite nearly three decades in the film industry.

The 51-year-old actress, who has worked in more than 50 films throughout her 28-year career, discussed her relationship with her own performances during a recent joint interview with Hindustan Times alongside her Vibe co-star Vanshika Dhir.

Zinta admitted that she generally avoids watching her completed films because she finds it difficult to objectively evaluate her own acting.

According to the actress, seeing herself on screen often makes her concentrate on the things she believes she could have performed differently rather than simply enjoying the finished project.

“I can never judge myself on screen. I don’t see myself on screen. Once my movie is done, I don’t watch it,” Zinta explained, adding that she feels particularly uncomfortable sitting through her own performances.

The Kal Ho Naa Ho star said her reaction is not because she dislikes watching movies. Instead, she finds it unusual to watch herself and immediately begins questioning her performance.

Zinta explained that she tends to think about whether she could have delivered certain scenes better, highlighting the self-critical attitude that has remained with her even after years of experience in Bollywood.

Her comments offer a glimpse into the personal insecurities that can remain behind the confidence associated with established film stars. Despite decades of experience and numerous successful projects, Zinta said she still struggles to watch herself objectively.

The actress also spoke about her experience working on Vibe, where she plays Madam H, a highly skilled spy who brings two unlikely recruits into a secret operation. The film also features Kunal Kemmu and Sparsh Shrivastava.

Zinta revealed that performing action sequences for the movie involved considerable technical preparation and coordination. While she wanted to perform as much of the action herself as possible, she acknowledged that professional stunt teams remain essential for demanding sequences.

The actress described the process as a negotiation between what she wanted to do herself and what was technically safe and practical during filming.

She recalled scenes involving physical fights, including being kicked and punched as part of the action sequences. However, she noted that the finished scenes appear far more exciting on screen than they feel during production.

According to Zinta, action filmmaking is highly technical when experienced from behind the camera, with the final product making the sequences appear much more seamless and dramatic.

Vibe represents another major project in Zinta’s acting career and is also Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial film following Madgaon Express. Kemmu has additionally contributed to the upcoming project as a writer, producer and actor.

The film features Preity Zinta, Vanshika Dhir and Sparsh Shrivastava in key roles and is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 18, 2026.

For Zinta, the film also provides an opportunity to take on an action-oriented character while demonstrating that even an established Bollywood performer can remain highly self-critical about her work.
