Mehwish Hayat Reflects on Iconic ‘Billi’ Dance Number and Upcoming Film Projects

Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat has opened up about her memorable performance in the hit song Billi from Na Maloom Afraad, reflecting on the challenges and creative milestones behind one of her most iconic dance numbers.

During a recent appearance on Something Haute, Mehwish Hayat shared that the shoot was far more demanding than what appeared on screen. She revealed that the sequence was filmed over three consecutive nights, stretching from evening to early morning on a hard wooden surface, making the experience physically exhausting.

The actress explained that the intense schedule took a toll on her physically, particularly affecting her feet and knees. Despite the difficulties, she described the experience as deeply rewarding because of the final outcome and audience appreciation the song continues to receive.

Mehwish Hayat further stated that Billi represented a bold turning point in her career. Transitioning from television to films, she said the performance pushed her beyond her comfort zone and introduced audiences to a different, more dynamic side of her talent.

She also recalled how filmmaker Javed Sheikh personally approached her for the project, encouraging her to take on the role, which he believed suited her energy and screen presence.

In the same conversation, the actress discussed her upcoming film Zombeid, where she stars opposite Fahad Mustafa. She described the project as one of the most exciting and physically challenging experiences of her career, highlighting its unique zombie survival action-thriller concept.

According to Mehwish Hayat, the film explores a genre that is relatively new to Pakistani cinema, combining large-scale production, action sequences, horror elements, and emotional storytelling. She expressed hope that such projects will encourage the industry to experiment with more diverse narratives.

She also spoke warmly about her on-screen chemistry with Fahad Mustafa, joking that their working dynamic feels like they have done “30 films together” despite appearing in only a few projects.

The cast reportedly worked long hours, often extending up to 18 hours a day, while filming physically demanding sequences involving action, survival themes, and emotional scenes. Despite the challenges, the team remained motivated due to the film’s ambitious vision.

With its high-energy trailer and large-scale production, Zombeid is already generating strong buzz as one of the most anticipated Pakistani films ahead of its planned Eid-ul-Azha 2026 release.
